Citrus
is a genus of flowering trees from Rutaceae family, subfamily Aurantoideae1 and there are many species in this genus. There are major kinds of Citrus such as sweet orange,mandarins group,grapefruits, lime and sour orange. Citrus is one of the most widely grown fruit crops in the world and have a huge market all over the world.
Citrus fruits are famous for their fragrance. The citrus juice contains a high quantity of citric acid and other organic acids. These characteristics give them their sharp flavor. The genus is commercially important because many species are cultivated for their fruit, which is eaten fresh, pressed for juice, or preserved in pickles.
They are also amazing sources of vitamin C. The content of vitamin C in the fruit depends on the variety species and mode of cultivation. Fruits produced with organic agriculture that contain more vitamin C than those produced with conventional agriculture. But results depended on the species and cultivar.
Citrus is the largest crop that produced in Egypt with around 520,000 acres total cultivated area. Citrus fruit export in Egypt had surged in 2018.Ministry of Agriculture, said that export in Egypt was about 1,220,999 million tons of citrus abroad from the beginning of the new export season of fruits and vegetables.

Navel Orange is the most cultivated product in Egypt. Other major products are Valencia orange, Baladi, Blood, and Khalily. For export, Navel orange and Valencia orange are the main varieties which include around 94% from the Egyptian citrus exported varieties. Other varieties like tangerines (Mandarin, Clementine and grapefruit) are also exported.
The Egyptian citrus season is about to start mid-December this season. The start of the Valencia season is on mid-February.

Exporting orange from Egypt is increasing and starting to find its place in the European market.The quality of the citrus is getting better and better every year.
